On June 3 and 24, 2016, that is, almost simultaneously, two hyper-discussed events took place at once - Brexit and the premiere of the Mercedes-AMG GT R sports car. The presentation of the AMG GT R started on the historic Brooklands highway, more precisely, on the territory of the Mercedes-Benz World complex, and continued at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Eight-cylinder V-shaped engine M 178 with a working volume of 3.982 cubic meters. The SM with two turbo superchargers, direct fuel injection, as well as a dry sump has undergone a number of changes. He received new turbines with increased boost pressure (from 1.2 to 1.35 bar) and a new two-mass flywheel, which is 700 g lighter than the standard one. In addition, engineers optimized its compression ratio and exhaust ducts, improved cooling, reconfigured the combustion process, and rewired the control electronics.
As a result, the engine power was increased from 375 kW (510 hp) to 430 kW (585 hp), at 6,250 rpm, and the torque - from 650 to 700 Nm, in the range from 1,900 to 5,500 rpm. At the same time, the manufacturer claims that this version of the motor, despite the presence of supercharging, has a linear power characteristic, and informs that its turbines spin up to 186,000 rpm.
