Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is about 80 miles north of Chicago and was founded in 1846, nine years after Chicago.
Although a lighthouse had been located on Milwaukee's breakwater since 1899, it wasn't until 1927 that the present lighthouse was completed.

It was automated in 1966 and has always been infested with spiders.
There's been a lighthouse at Milwaukee's pier since 1848 but the city's piers
have gone through many changes over the decades. This lighthouse was
completed in 1912. Its 5th order Fresnel lens was removed in 2005.
With a population of 600,000 and a metro area population of 1.6 million,
Milwaukee is the 39th largest city in the U.S.

The Hoan Bridge opened in 1977 and carries 6 lanes of I-794 traffic over the Milwaukee River.

In 1916, Daniel Hoan was elected 32nd mayor in Milwaukee's short 70 year history. Many previous mayors served only one or two year terms. Hoan, a member of the Socialist Party, was Milwaukee’s second Socialist mayor and went on to serve as Milwaukee's mayor for 24 years, the longest continuous Socialist administration in U.S. History.

Today, Milwaukee's lakefront is known for Summerfest, a musical festival that began in 1968 and draws 800,000. Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Metallica, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Kenny Chesney, Aerosmith, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, and Dave Matthews Band are among the acts that have performed in this venue.

First lit in 1872, the Milwaukee Pierhead lighthouse is 41ft (12m) high.
It was automated in 1939.
