60 years on from the release of the Beatles' first single, ‘Love me Do’, and in the year of Sir Paul McCartney’s 80th birthday, the National Trust are telling the story of 20 Forthlin Road, the childhood home of Sir Paul & Mike McCartney and ‘the birthplace of the Beatles’. Unsigned musicians will be given the chance to visit, write and play at the house, and we’re also asking the public to share their memories or stories of The Fab Four and the influence their music had on their lives via #TheForthlinSessions.

The Forthlin Sessions is a celebration of the creativity that was sparked at 20 Forthlin Road - an ordinary house in Liverpool where something extraordinary happened - and will give aspiring musical talent the opportunity to sit in the very same spots where around 30 of the world’s most famous songs were written by Sir Paul including ‘Love Me Do’, ‘Hold Me Tight’, ‘I Saw Her Standing There’, and ‘When I’m 64’.

To launch the initiative a poem featuring figures from the history of the house including Mike McCartney, the Quarry Men drummer Colin Hanton, Colin and Sylvia Hall, custodians of Mendips - John Lennon’s childhood Liverpool home - and 20 Forthlin Road respectively. They appear alongside schoolboy Luca Osborne and a number of creatives from across the City of Liverpool, including former LIPA (Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts) students.
