Originally titled "Hey Jules," Paul came up with the melody while driving to visit Cynthia Lennon. He eventually changed the name to "Jude" because it sounded better, but he almost cut one of the song's most famous lines: "The movement you need is on your shoulder." Paul thought it was just a placeholder, but when he played it for John Lennon, John told him, "You won't, you know. That’s the best line in the song!"
