PAUL MCCARTNEY

Venue: Live at the Rosemont Horizon
City: Rosemont, Illinois, U.S.A.
Date: December 5th, 1989
Capacity: 18,500

The third night in Rosemont brings us to the end of this three show run, but it wouldn’t quite be Paul’s final Chicago area concert on the tour, as he’d come back to the city next year to finish off this world tour. In stark contrast to the previous show, three audience sources exist from tonight’s show. All three are in pretty great quality, but the bulk of this upload comes mainly from the third source, which is captured in a pretty great tape which is also quite clear, though it distorts a bit near the end. While Paul's not in great shape, the band gives the people of Chicago an amazing show, with this being probably one of Robbie's most creative shows so far, pulling out one of the best ever "Let It Be" solos, and going off on "Ain't That A Shame".

"Figure of Eight" isn't Paul's finest hour as he strains through the song, he's REALLY gutsy tho, "Jet" is mainly decent though Paul's tone in the higher notes is pretty bad, "Rough Ride" is tight, "Got To Get You Into My Life" is pretty decent but not as good as last night. "Band On The Run" is pretty decent as Paul gets a couple of clean high notes and doesn't struggle despite his shouty voice being at full swing. "Ebony and Ivory" is a nice performance with great backing vocals from Hamish. "We Got Married" has an amazing solo from Wix, "Maybe I'm Amazed" is expectedly rough, and the rest of the piano set goes over well. "Sgt. Pepper's" has some fantastic guitar work from Robbie and Paul. The acoustic set contains a great "Things We Said Today" with some great guitars, and the new songs go over quite well. The oldies contain some pretty spirited performances, with "I Saw Her Standing There" turning into an awesome singalong, and Hamish does a great solo. "Twenty Flight Rock" has some great musicianship, and Wix goes off awesomely on the outro. "Coming Up" is a fun performance, with a fun jam. "Let It Be" is conservative, but Robbie does a FANTASTIC solo. "Ain't That A Shame" is a fun one, with Robbie going off amazingly on his solo. "Live and Let Die" is a decent performance vocally, with Paul nailing a really powerful C5 out of nowhere, and "The Hustle" has been further expanded as the band now plays around with it, "Hey Jude" ends the main set by containing a memorable audience section as they do a fantastic singalong. The encores contain a nice "Yesterday", a fun "Get Back" with some more great guitars, and Paul absolutely going insane on the final chorus, and the ending medley has an amazing performance of "The End", with a great guitar duel to end things off.
