Paul McCartney was born in June 1942 in Liverpool, England. His father was a trumpet player and pianist in a local band. He began taking piano lessons at the age of 14, and soon began playing guitar and bass. In 1957, McCartney met John Lennon and the two quickly became friends. They formed a skiffle band before eventually forming the Beatles in 1960. The band quickly rose to fame and became one of the most successful and influential musical acts of all time.
