Paul McCartney Was Scolded by Ringo Starr for Appearing Too Old
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have been in the music business for sixty years and are still active performers. Despite being in their 80s, both men still exude a young energy. However, Starr once encouraged his ex-bandmate to appear younger. McCartney was reprimanded by Starr for letting go when he noticed that his hair was becoming gray.
McCartney was in his 40s and accepting of his age in 1986. He acknowledged that he had not planned to color his hair and let it go gray.
But Starr did not like it. McCartney felt that the reason he chastised him for not coloring it was because it made him look elderly.
But Ringo chastised me for it, saying I should color it, he remarked. "I feel like he's measuring himself by my age; if I appear a little older, it makes him feel older as well." You know, but what the hell? Life is like this. All of us are growing older every second. My main goal is to simply try to have fun with it. And I'm shocked to learn that I actually do most of the time.
Years later, McCartney's aging visage was once again disparaged by Starr.
In 2015, McCartney told Rolling Stone, "I was having dinner with him recently in L.A. with Dave Grohl and our wives." "C'mon, Ringo, have a whiskey," I teased, knowing that he had been sober for years.
Ringo Starr gave a terse but powerful reply.
After giving me a brief glance, Ringo said, "What, and end up looking like you?" McCartney remembered. "I was due."
Even after The Beatles disbanded, McCartney and Starr are still important figures in each other's lives. They try to make time for each other when they can, but their schedules prevent them from seeing each other very often.
"We don't spend a lot of time together," Starr reportedly stated to Express. "However, if we live in the same nation or town, we always have dinner together and say hello when he comes over or when I go to his house."
McCartney recently contributed to the effort to get Starr elected into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and penned the song "Feeling the Sunlight" on Starr's CD Rewind Forward. He declared his regard for his erstwhile bandmate as family.
"Family," McCartney remarked. We become upset with each other sometimes. When I ask for something from him and he refuses, I'll become irate. However, it eventually passes. Brothers argue from time to time. There is a revisionist history that claims John and Paul did everything. However, it had only four square corners; a side would have been necessary for it to function. Ringo made the ideal angled shot.
