THE BEATLES ARE COMING!Beatlemania aka The Fab Four was born in the late 50's led by Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe(original bass guitarist while Paul played 6 string guitar), and Pete Best(original drummer)before asking Ringo Starr(Richard Starkey)to join the band and to drop Pete Best.In addition Stuart died at age 21 from a brain hemorrhage on April 10, '62.Introducing The Beatles coming out just 10 days before Meet The Beatles was released in Jan '64.After being turned down by record companies time again, it was not until Brian Epstein(The Beatles manager)saw The Quarrymen/Silver Beatles(The Beatles original band name)play at the Cavern Club in London in the early 60's who was inspired and signed them a record deal in May '62 at EMI Records on Abbey Road.George Martin(The Beatles Producer)wanted to capture a live recording album of The Beatles playing live at the Cavern Club, but terrible acoustics in the club and bad sound quality made Martin deflate the idea. The Beatles made their first live band album to capture the club vibe(playing together few overdubs)in EMI studios instead during a long jam session at Abbey Road which became to be The Beatles debut album "Please Please Me" released in March '63.The majority of The Beatles first album was recorded on one day in a 13 hr straight jam session on a BTR 2 track tape machine. The album was a mixture of covers and Lennon/McCartney originals. The Beatles arrive at John F. Kennedy's airport in New York on Feb 7, '64 and were greeted by TONS OF SCREAMING BEATLEMANIA FANS for the first time in the US.The first Beatles press conference was also held at JFK's airport. On Feb 8,'64 rehearsals began at CBS Studios in NY for The Beatles debut on the Ed Sullivan show where 73 million views would tune in on Feb 9, '64.George Harrison fell ill and road manager Neil Aspinall filled in for George and was advise to just stand there with George's guitar.George did not attend the photo session Central Park NY.Strange enough Ringo was provided a Ludwig white marine pearl kit from Manny's Music Store.Luckily George showed up for the 2nd half of the rehearsal and per George he said Ringo only brought his snare drum and cymbals(probably from his first Ludwig black oyster pearl kit), and his newly painted "Beatles" drop-t logo head #2 with the drum co. "Ludwig", "Weather King" and "The Beatles" logo painted in thick bold black lettering for promotion.Ringo left the kit at home for carriage purposes.Ringo later traded the Ludwig white pearl kit for a brand new Ludwig black oyster pearl 20" kick kit from Manny's Music in NY.This would be kit #2 and the 2nd of the 20" bass drum kits.In addition Ringo did purchase a 20" Zildjian cymbal which can be seen pretty clearly during the Ed Sullivan shows, and later switched from Swiss-made Paiste cymbals(purchased at Drum City) to Zildjian Turkish cymbals. The stage theme was also changed as well.Prior to The Beatles coming to the US, The Beatles had a meeting with Rickenbacker guitars co. and John was provided a new '64 Rickenbacker 325 in stock black and stock trim system(did not arrive to him until the 2nd Ed Sullivan show in Miami Feb 16, '64).George was provided a '63 Rickenbacker 360-12 string guitar(used for the rehearsals for the 2nd show in Miami).Paul was offered a Rickenbacker 4001S bass but turned the deal down until '66 for the "Revolver" album sessions, '67 Sgt. "Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" session, and the '67 "Magical Mystery Tour" album session. The bass also seen in the background on stage as a back up bass during The Beatles '66 tour, but never played live.Rickenbacker offered their own amps to the lads but they refused the offer next to the Vox amps.George Harrison playing 1 of the 2 Gretsch Chet Akins Country Gentlemen guitars. Both Country Gents were the same but with different control configurations.John Lennon was still playing his NEW '64 Rickenbacker '58 325 the factory style Kauffman vibrato system. This was John's 2nd American made guitar and was the 2nd Rickenbacker 325 out of the 3 he had, and was the 2nd 6 string Rickenbacker 325.John and George BUMPED up to Vox AC-50 amps.Paul started using a Vox AC-100 cab/head with his '63 Hofner 500/1 violin bass. Many photos of The Beatles relaxing with FUN IN THE SUN at the Deauville Hotel in Miami BEACH, hanging with Muhammed Ali, rehearsing/rehearsals and RINGO EVEN CRASHED A YOT that was lended to the YOUNGSTERS!LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THE BEATLES LETS BRING THEM ON!
